Date for your diary – The Friends of Riverside Park will be holding its annual general meeting on Tuesday 15th February 2011 at 8.00 p.m. at the Bitterne Park Baptist Church Hall, 49 Oak Tree Road, SO18 1PH.

We will be discussing events for the coming year and all matters concerning Riverside Park.

We look forward to seeing as many members there as possible.

   MONTHLY LITTER PICKS  

Come and join us for a litter pick - get to know members of the Committee and other Friends. Nothing strenuous and all equipment will be provided. Meet us at the Pavilion at 9.00am. The next litter pick is TBA.

Sunday 23rd January @ 12pm

The refurbished and redeveloped play area will be officially opened by wildlife expert and television personality Chris Packham, in the presence of the Mayor of Southampton

 Weekly Walks -  Starting Wednesday 10th June

Everyone welcome to join members for a walk around the park @ 1.30pm (‘Weather permitting’ meet at the Pavilion – View Map). Refreshments will be provided afterwards. A good way to meet new people in your local area.

Fitness & mobility levels of no consequence, as we will be going at a leisurely pace.

If this walk proves popular we shall look to repeat it on a weekly basis.

     Join the FORP for a ‘Dirty Weekend’

On Sunday 7th June, in conjunction with the BBC, we shall be getting our hands dirty, planting trees & sowing wild flowers. There will also be children’s activities and light refreshments will be available to purchase.

Don’t miss the fun; the event will start at 2.30pm. Please come and support us, we will be meeting near the composting area (View Map - For further details click on the BBC icon below or contact us via the website)

 


 

    Spring Seed Sowing  

If you would like to help the FoRP to brighten up our park, we are having a wild flower seed sowing event on Thursday 14th May. We shall be meeting at the cricket pavilion at 3.30pm, depending on numbers the sowing should take approx 1hr. Equipment will be provided by the council.

ITCHEN NAVIGATION PROJECT
Volunteer Tasks in Southampton in 2008

Mansbridge Lock Preservation
Task will be led by the Inland Waterways Association. Task will involve mainly vegetation clearance. Meet at 10am at the White Swan Pub car park on Mansbridge Road. Bring outdoor clothing (long sleeves), sturdy footwear, a packed lunch and drinks.

Mansbridge Habitat Enhancement
Task will be led by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trut. Vegetation clearance next to Mansbridge Open Space. Meet at 10am at the White Swan Pub car park.
